The Modern Artist Spring Semester Program builds upon the foundational courses of our summer program and then takes it to the next level with the opportunity to perform at jazz festivals, whereas the Fall semester features a recording session in a professional studio.
This program is great for students who have already participated in a summer intensive and want to keep pushing their skills forward throughout the year.

What to expect
Modern Artists will participate in classroom learning, one-on-one instruction, collaboration, and live performance, gaining the experience to transfer what they learn in class to the stage with confidence.

Spring semester bands will have the chance to audiition for jazz festivals where they'll share stages with today's greatest jazz artists.
Rehearsals
Students will be assigned to combos of 4-7 students with similar skill levels. They'll decide on their set list and practice these songs, giving each other positive encouragement as well as constructive feedback. Our combo instructors, Mike and Alex, will guide them and challenge them to dig deeper.
Final Performance
Live performance is an important skill for musicians to develop early on. Students will have the chance to play a live show for friends and family members at the end of the 16-week program.
Jazz Festivals
Student bands will apply to play at regional and national jazz festivals. These experiences push students to raise their standard, get real feedback from working jazz musicians, and see how they stack up against other strong bands, giving them a real edge and a better sense of what it takes to grow as an artist.
Who should apply
Modern Artist is open to all students aged 14 - 18 with an interest in or experience playing jazz.
